Great product, pricing sucks 4 February, 2012
First of all, the Kindle is an extremely good product. Its amazing, but this review isn't about the product, its about the price you'll pay.
In USA, you pay $79 (about Rs 3850) for an ad supported version. However, the ad supported version isn't shipped internationally and you've to buy the $109 (about Rs5300 ) version. Now add the shipping costs and import duties. Your kindle is now priced at $ 149.19 (about Rs 7300 ).[ 1.9x more than the price you'd pay in the USA].

Why can't amazon , like other electronic companies sell a gadget at equivalent rates worldwide ?

Great Hardware, Poor Software 3 June, 2013
Kindles' hardware is good enough and devices are comparatively inexpensive, but the software is terrible.
No out-of-box support for *.fb2, *.djvu, *.epub, *.chm, and dozens of other pretty common file formats.
Third-party firmware (like Duokan) could fix this problem, but installing it is such a hassle...

Prefer either a keyboard or a touch: This version lacks both 4 March, 2012
I have been using Kindle 3 (with 3G) for quite some time now (2 years now). This version of Kindle is very basic. I own a kindle keyboard 3G (I find the 3G quite useful) and a kindle fire. I have also checked out both the touch versions as well as this basic one. I would be frank here. For older users of kindle (like me, who are used to marking and using dictionaries), they would find the absence of both the touch and the keyboard pretty troublesome. If you are a first time kindle user, you would probably be just fine. Junglee, I would urge you to offer the touch versions (WIFI/WIFI-3G) along with this basic model (although a little heavier on the pockets). The consumers could then make a better informed decision based on their preferences.
