Before Bonnie became a household name
    Format:Audio CD
Bonnie Raitt's first three albums on Warner -- "Bonnie Raitt" (1971), "Give It Up" (1972), and "Taking My Time" (1973) -- are all terrific, and I recommend each of them for her original songs and covers of blues classics. But from 1974 to 1982, Bonnie hit her stride on the five albums collected in this box set. It's consistently great music: bluesy, full of feeling, no tricks or gimmicks.

She sings 50 songs by brilliant songwriters like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, John Prine, Allen Toussaint, J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne, Del Shannon (scoring a big hit with "Runaway"), Karla Bonoff, Isaac Hayes, Mary Wells, Bobby Troup, Tracy Nelson, Robert Palmer, and Bob Dylan. Along with her guitar mastery and soulful voice, Raitt's superb taste in song selection has always been one of her strongest assets.

There was a fallow period after these albums, but Bonnie switched to Capitol and came roaring back in 1989 with "Nick of Time," an album that shot her into stratospheric popularity. This was followed by a string of three platinum-selling albums in the 90s: "Luck of the Draw," "Longing in Their Hearts," and "Fundamental." She's put out two reasonably popular albums since then, keeps plugging away in her sixties, and has just released a new, critically-acclaimed CD, "Slipstream."

The product description claims that all five albums in this set are out of print in the US, but that's inaccurate. The final two -- "The Glow" and "Green Light" -- are currently unavailable except through resellers, but the other three are in print as of this writing. And if you buy this collection from an Amazon Marketplace dealer, you can get it for less than $20, or under $4 per disc. A full track listing follows:

    Knocked my socks off...
    Format:Audio CD
I purchased this 5-CD set, mainly because I could not find THE GLOW on CD anywhere. I believe it may be out of print. What I did not expect was the incredible sound quality of all 5 discs. There was no specific mention of the music being remastered for this release, but I can tell you that they have never sounded better. No Bonnie Raitt fan should be without these five essential releases. So to find them in one place at such a great price was awesome!! Don't miss this one!!
